My most recent blog addressed an effort by some “statisticians” to downgrade the seriousness of the Ebola plague in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). This statistical downgrade was apparently done by unnamed individuals working for unnamed agencies. That there seems to be no one claiming “credit” for this radical downgrading of the Ebola threat makes it look like it was a “planted” story to get people to stop worrying about the Ebola outbreak at this time. I posited that some may want people to not worry about Ebola being spread via the millions of people traveling across many national lines to attend the World Cup Soccer matches being hosted by the USA, Canada and Mexico. Was I a lone voice with this concern or are others also concerned about Ebola being spread across national lines at this time?

I wanted readers to know that other serious and credible sources are worried about Ebola being spread during the spike in international travel that the World Soccer matches cause. What is the real extent of the danger posed by the Ebola outbreak?

The first link is on the spread of Ebola in the DRC. It reports 91 have died in the DRC alone, but it includes the assertion that there are “fears that the outbreak in eastern Congo is much larger than the official figures report” (emphasis added). The second link reports that 906 cases of Ebola have been confirmed and that there were 223 deaths in the DRC alone as of May 27th (that was a two-week old total!). The third link suggests that Ebola may have already spread to other continents. It reports one possible case in Italy and two possible cases in Brazil. It adds that an American man has a confirmed case of Ebola and was being treated (and quarantined) in Germany. The link adds that the USA and Canada were suspending travel by people entering those nations from the DRC, Uganda and South Sudan. I have an obvious question: If that ban is truly in effect, have the players and staff of the DRC’s soccer team all been tested and gone through a quarantine period before entering the USA for the World Cup soccer matches? What about all family members and fans from the DRC who are coming to North America? Have they all been tested and completed the requisite quarantine period before being allowed into North America?  If the answer is “no,” then there is a very real danger of people from those three nations bringing Ebola to North America.

Do you think I’m being alarmist? I saw a brief notice on a cable-TV channel about the USA pressuring European nations to take necessary measures so Ebola doesn’t travel through their nations to North America during the World Cup Soccer matches. The fourth link and fifth link document the real and growing concerns within the US government that Ebola could travel to the USA if European nations do not take the necessary precautionary steps to keep Ebola from spreading. Many European nations have soccer teams in the World Cup matches, and the links report millions of people from many nations will be traveling to the USA, Canada and Mexico for those soccer matches. The Trump administration is warning European nations “at the highest level”  about the dangers of Ebola spreading to North America. Obviously, if Europeans coming to the the soccer matches have not been tested and quarantined if they have recently been in any Central African nation, then there is a higher risk of Ebola coming to North America via soccer teams and soccer fans.  These are not warnings from sources in the media fringes. The fourth and fifth links are from USA Today and NBC News. These are media sources that are about as “mainstream” as you can get.

I have included the sixth link so readers can do additional research into the dangers of travelers bringing Ebola to North America during the soccer matches.  That link is the result of a web search on this topic. There are many stories available and I suggest you read some of them.

Matthew 24:7 warns “pestilences” will break out during the latter days of our current age. There is no question Ebola is a very dangerous “pestilence.”  One of the aforementioned links in this post opines that this current Ebola outbreak could become the worst outbreak yet because it is occurring in a war zone with poor communications, minimal health care services and few options for treating the sick or preventing Ebola’s spread. I agree with the statement expressed in the first link that the real numbers of Ebola cases and deaths are “much larger than official figures report.”

Millions are coming to the World Cup soccer matches in North America. Will all of them have been tested for Ebola and how many were quarantined preventively before entering the USA? People can bring Ebola into North America even if they have not been to Central Africa. Since Ebola is spread by contact with infected body fluids, some people from non-African nations could potentially be infected as a result of being sneezed on by an infected person in an airport or being in an airplane with a recirculating air system spreading Ebola to everyone (from many nations) on that airplane if just one person has Ebola but is asymptomatic.

Remember the covid years when we were warned about “super-spreader events?” The World Cup matches being held in 16 North American cities have the potential to be the ultimate super-spreader events. It is altogether appropriate that the US State Department is warning other nations about the need to take actions to stop Ebola from spreading to the USA, Canada and Mexico.
