A remarkable thing has happened in world geopolitics and it has received surprisingly little media coverage. India’s Prime Minister Modi flew to Israel to cement a military and economic alliance with the Israelis and Modi was even granted the singular honor of addressing the Israeli Knesset. The first link and second link describe the details of Modi’s visit to Israel and the formal Israeli-Indian alliance that is now in place. One example of how close this alliance has become is the fact that Israel has agreed to share with India its Iron Dome and Iron Beam air defense systems. Israel’s Iron Dome system is likely the premier air defense system in the world and the Iron Beam is a cutting-edge expansion of Israel’s layered air defense system. The Iron Beam system utilizes a laser beam to shoot down missiles attacking the nation of Israel.
The third link (from India’s media) describes the Iron Beam system’s abilities and limitations, and it notes that while other nations are trying to develop a similar technology, Israel is currently the only nation in the world which has deployed a functional laser-beam air defense system. The USA has invested money in helping Israel to develop the Iron Beam system, so it is assumed that Israel will share the Iron Beam system with the USA at some point and that this technology will be included in President Trump’s “Golden Dome” air defense system planned for the defense of North America from aerial attack.
I have been following the steady development of the Israeli-Indian military alliance for many years. The fourth link is a post I wrote in 2008 about the gradual deepening of the Israeli-Indian military ties. India has a huge incentive to anchor its national security to an alliance with Israel. Not long ago, it appeared that Pakistan and India were about to go to war as mutual artillery strikes were occurring as well as warplane attacks in a back and forth manner. In this short engagement, weaknesses were apparent in India’s air defense and air force capabilities. The new and deeper Israeli-Indian ties should result in India’s military systems being strengthened in a rapid manner. This alliance is good for both nations. Israel has a cutting-edge military technology to share with India and India has virtually limitless manpower and a large industrial base to bring to its alliance with Israel.
This Indian-Israeli alliance also shows that Israel is diversifying its military posture to include a wider range of allies than just the USA. Both Israel and India have suffered from Islamic terrorism, and this also binds Israel and India together. Surely, the intelligence sharing between Israel and India will grow as a result of this new and deeper alliance. India and Israel are both democracies so they have this in common as well. There is another factor that helps this alliance develop quickly. Both nations have many English-speakers throughout their societies. When I was in Israel in August 2000, I sometimes felt I was in the “51st state” as so many Israelis were fluent in English. Indeed, a significant number of Israelis were formerly Americans who had emigrated to Israel. For its part, India was a part of the British Empire for well over a century and English became a semi-official language after the main language of Hindi. This leads to an interesting dynamic. While Hindi is the official language of India and Hebrew is the official language of Israel, much communication between the two nations will be in English. Because both Israel and India are democracies, it facilitates their alliance to be a new sub-set in the overall Western system of alliances.
This Indian-Israeli alliance is further evidence that the God of the Bible is not going to abandon the tribe of Judah in the latter days. Zephaniah 2, Zechariah 12:1-9 and 14:1-21 all proclaim that in the latter days (our modern period of time) the tribe of Judah (the Jews) will found a nation in the old Promised Land that will not be destroyed by anyone. Zechariah 14 foretells that when the Messiah (Christians understand this to mean Jesus Christ) comes, he rescues the modern tribe of Judah (the Israelis) in a war which is already in progress. The language of Zechariah 14:12 can describe either a direct action of the Creator God or the effects of the Israelis detonating nuclear weapons on their human enemies.
[A brief word on China, Iran, the USA and the Mideast: As this is being written, talks between the USA and Iran are taking place which may or may not prevent the resumption of hostilities. The fifth link and sixth link report that China is currently shipping (or preparing to ship) supersonic anti-ship missiles to Iran. Iran may be stalling for time in the talks to allow Chinese technicians the time needed to install their new anti-ship missiles in place so they can be fired at US aircraft carriers and other ships in the region if war resumes. I do hope the US Navy is aware of this and is prepared to defend our warships against the more modern Chinese missiles than just Iran’s outdated missiles. China would like nothing better than to test their new anti-ship missiles in real combat conditions vs. US warships.]
