Dear Steve,

FormsMultiLine1: My family comes from Sicily, I know they were Jews or Israelites.  What tribe do the Sicilians come from, do any of your books deal with the history of Sicily?

MYREPLY

Dear Debbie,

Sicily was dominated and/or settled by many ancient empires and peoples (Phoenician, Greek, Carthaginian, Roman, Goth, Vandal, Byzantine, Saracens, Normans and more recent empires and nations). I identify the Phoenicians, Carthaginians, Goths, Vandals and Normans as being descendants of the ten tribes of Israel in various historical periods. Jews of the Diaspora were also doubtless present in Sicily. Obviously, many non-Israelites also settled and ruled Sicily. Sicily has many different ethnic elements which have contributed to its modern population. Concerning your own ancestry, I would yield to whatever conclusion your personal genealogical research can determine.

It is very interesting that you live near the ancient Paleo-Hebrew inscription of the Ten Commandments in New Mexico. I hope that you have seen (or can take the time) to visit this important site!
