As I write this post, President-Elect Trump is just days from taking office again. I expect people may be in danger of getting political “whiplash” as they see how quickly the USA and the world will change after Trump enters office. During the presidential campaign, Trump had a list of policy changes he said he would make “on day one” of his term of office. Outgoing President Biden’s administration is taking unprecedented Executive actions to try and thwart whatever Trump wants to do. Such actions, I believe, will only make Trump even more determined to reverse virtually all the actions and polices of the Biden administration. It may be that we will witness one of the most rapid and draconian reversals of American policy in history.

Consider first the Executive Orders (EO) that Biden has been churning out to try and “Trump-proof” Biden’s Leftist “woke” policies. I’m not a lawyer, but I think Biden will learn that any Executive Orders or actions done by an outgoing president can be reversed or modified by an incoming president once official authority has been transferred. The US government has three branches: Executive, Congressional and Judicial. It is known that judicial actions can be reversed by a later judicial action (the reversal of Roe v. Wade decision was a major recent example). Congressional laws or actions can be reversed or modified by any subsequent vote of a US Congress. It follows that any purely Executive branch action (like Executive Orders) can be reversed or modified by any later president. Since the Biden Executive Orders are not congressional actions and are, therefore, not “laws,”  Trump should be able to undo any purely executive action by Biden. I think Biden’s followers know this even as Biden issues sweeping executive actions as if he were a king issuing edicts. When Biden’s EO’s are reversed, the Democrats likely intend to inflame their base by moaning about Trump’s executive actions. There is another factor. Once Trump is in office, Leftists will have to sue to try and find a federal court that will say Trump can’t reverse a previous EO (a major judicial “stretch”). However, the Leftists will soon have to pay all their own legal bills to attempt to do this, which will be very expensive. Once Trump is in office, the government will be paying for President Trump’s defense of his executive actions.

What else might Trump do? Given that Biden set the precedent of making wildly broad and numerous pardons and clemencies just before leaving office, he has made it much easier for Trump to issue a blanket pardon for all the people sentenced as part of the so-called “January 6th insurrection.” It is also now known that the FBI had provocateurs in the crowd that day to instigate more actions by the demonstrators that day. Trump will surely issue a very broad pardon for the January 6th protesters who were arrested, and a blanket pardon for all of them is not out of the question. The first link discusses the Day One executive orders Trump may make on a wide variety of subjects. I expect Trump will withdraw the USA from the Paris Climate Accords agreement and that he will take actions against the encroaching powers of a variety of globalist entities. It is certain that border and immigration policies will be dramatically changed from the lax policies implemented by the Biden administration.

As I write this post, an agreement of some kind seems imminent between Israel and Hamas which will exchange many Palestinians convicted of and imprisoned for terrorist acts to obtain the release of the Israeli and American hostages. Trump is not a part of that agreement being finalized, so he is not bound by its terms. He is likely to welcome it, and I’m sure that the agreement was hastened due to Trump’s imminent return to office. There were estimated to be seven Americans held in tortuous circumstances in Hamas’ tunnels. President Biden never showed any real concern for these American citizens. Trump said that there would be “hell to pay” if the hostages weren’t free when he came into office. The current negotiations, according to various media reports I’ve heard, will call for a 16-33 day period in which hostages will be released. Again, Trump need not observe that deadline. If the hostages aren’t released by January 20 or 21 or If Hamas drags its feet about releasing hostages, Trump’s pledge comes into force and he could order US warplanes into action long before any waiting period expires. Gaza has been bombed to smithereens already by the Israelis so if Trump decides to literally keep his pledge, I suspect American bombs will fall on targets in Iran and on the Houthi region of Yemen. However, Trump will do what he wants to do. If Americans are still being held hostage, Trump can take whatever action he wants to take. Trump is impulsive, so his decisions are not entirely predictable.

You have no doubt seen how Trump shook up the global political community by offering to buy Greenland from Denmark and wanting to assert control over the Panama Canal Zone. The government of Denmark said it did not want to sell Greenland to the USA, but I heard a report on a radio news segment that the opposition party in Denmark is open to Trump’s proposal. Greenland already is an autonomous territory of Denmark, but its leader said recently he wants independence for Greenland and that he is willing to talk to Trump about America’s role in Greenland (second link, third link and fourth link). One link points out Trump’s interest in Greenland was shared by Democrat President Truman so Trump’s proposal isn’t without precedent. Greenland has a strategically important location in the Arctic region between North America and Europe. Greenland also may have rare earth minerals to be found by American exploration companies. These rare earths are vital for many high-tech and defense usages. Biden’s war against fossil fuels led him to issue an Executive Order banning oil leases along American coastlines. Courts will eventually decide whether Biden had any authority to do that, but if Greenland became an American protectorate, oil could be drilled for off its borders.

When President Carter gave control of the Panama Canal to Panama, I was very disappointed by that action–which I thought was very foolish. Control of the canal is absolutely imperative for the USA. It must be available to the US Navy to move ships between the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans in times of war. Trump’s assertion of that need is entirely logical, but it may be that Trump will be satisfied by a new defense agreement with Panama that makes the USA responsible for all military defense and internal security of the Canal Zone.

In conclusion, we are at a major pivot point in American and world history. Trump and his appointees will remake American government as we watch. We will see if the DOGE duo of Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy will be able to find ways to massively reduce the size and cost of American government. Trump will never have to face the voters again so he is free to do essentially whatever he wants to do. Fasten your seatbelts. The next four years are likely to be a momentous time featuring rapid changes.
