The world is currently waiting with bated breath for the Israeli attack on Iran, which Israel promised as a retaliation for Iran’s 180+ ballistic missile attack on Israel recently. I thought an attack against Iran would have been most appropriate on October 7, the anniversary of the sadistic Hamas attack on Israel one year ago. This post marks that anniversary, and also comment on what I think is a very odd action by the USA.
The first link offers commentary on how Israelis are observing the one-year anniversary of that attack. As Israel was solemnly observing the one year anniversary of that great wound suffered by the Israeli nation and people, Hamas observed it by launching more rockets against Israel (second link).
Clearly, Iran and Israel are already at war, and they have been at war for some time in intelligence matters, targeted assassinations, terrorist attacks, etc. However, it has spilled out into open war between Israel and Iran’s proxies: Hamas, Hezbollah and the Houthis. The third link offers an analysis of the current state of war between Iran and Israel. Iran has clearly shown it is openly at war with Israel by launching approximately 300 missiles and suicide drones against Israel in April and another 180+ ballistic missiles very recently. Thankfully, Israel’s defenses are so good that few missiles penetrate Israel’s multi-tiered air defense system and some are allowed to penetrate because the Israeli defenses are able to analyze the trajectories of incoming missiles to see if they need interception or whether they can be allowed to hit harmlessly into mere dirt or sand.
What has been missing so far is a strong Israeli attack against Iran. Frankly, I’ve been puzzled by the delay in Israel’s response. However, today I saw a report that likely explains that delay. The USA’s Biden-Harris administration has reportedly caused a delay in the Israeli counter-attack. The fourth link reports that, oddly, the USA is trying to protect Iran from an all-out Israeli attack. The USA is offering unspecified “compensation” if Israel will refrain from attacking “certain” Iranian targets. This begs an obvious question: Why would the USA be lobbying Israel to avoid certain important Iranian targets? I will offer a guess.
Iran makes billions of dollars by selling oil to other nations and entities. These billions are Iran’s lifeblood which enable it to fund its terrorist proxies. The most obvious targets in Iran should be the ones which would cut off its oil income. However, if Israel targets Iran’s oil production and loading faculties (such as the huge one on Kharg Island), the world’s price of oil will go up significantly. The Biden-Harris administration do not want a spike in the world’s oil and gasoline prices just before an election in the USA. That would raise the inflation rate in the USA quickly. The Biden administration must be lobbying Israel hard to prevent Israel from launching necessary and logical attacks vs. Iran which could hurt the Democrat’s chances in the coming election.
Logically, Israel should hit Iran’s oil production and loading facilities very hard and they should also strike the Iranian nuclear sites which are intended to help build an Iranian nuclear weapon. Israel should also strike the missile-building facilities inside Iran so they can’t fire an endless supply of ballistic missiles into Israel’s airspace. In any war, the obvious goal is to defeat the enemy as quickly as possible. Most oddly, the US leadership is reportedly putting itself in the position of helping Iran by seeking to limit the Israeli counterattack. This makes no sense. The USA, called “the Great Satan” by Iran, ought to be assisting the Israelis in putting an end to Iran’s ability to fund terrorism throughout the Middle East. Instead the White House is apparently trying to prevent a truly effective counterattack by Israel against Iran. Last minute and urgent talks between Israel and the USA are occurring to limit the Israeli target list (fourth link).
I will close this post with the obvious question: Whose side is the USA truly on?
