The first three links (1, 2, 3) detail different perspectives about a locust plague that is damaging crops in Australia. [As long-time readers know, Australia is one of the prophesied “company of nations” of the Israelite tribe of Ephraim in the latter days (Genesis 48:19).] The locusts are already damaging crops in Australia, and unless they are controlled soon, they will cause even more extensive damage to the food supply in Australia. The Australian Broadcasting Corporation states that “New South Wales could be facing its worst locust plague since 2004.” The third link reports that the locusts are already spreading outward in several directions so the threat to Australian crops is spreading as far as the locusts can fly.

The last two links (4, 5) warn that a major grasshopper plague is looming in the USA. The Wall Street Journal reports that federal officials have warned that the worst grasshopper plague in 25 years now faces the USA. It adds that “critically high numbers of adult grasshoppers” have been found in at least the states of Idaho, Montana, Nebraska, South Dakota (my state) and Wyoming. The last link below adds that Wyoming faces an infestation of both grasshoppers and Mormon crickets. Indeed, it warns that “1.2 million acres of BLM-administered land in Wyoming is threatened” by these dangers. The BLM (the Bureau of Land Management) is a federal agency administering federal lands. If 1.2 million acres of federal land is threatened, one wonders how many acres of privately-owned land are also now threatened by these looming outbreaks.

There are a growing number of threats to the food supplies of many nations. A recent late freeze virtually wiped out the tomato crop in Florida and damaged other vegetable crops. You may have noticed the price of tomatoes has risen dramatically in stores and the quantities for sale has dropped. I’ve noticed these trends in my city. A recent blog also reported that the honeybee die-offs have worsened significantly over the recent winter which means that there are steadily less bees each year to pollinate many crops in America. Floods and inclement weather are also damaging cropland. Our recent winter witnessed extraordinarily cold weather in the Northern hemisphere. If such cold weather returns again this Autumn, growing seasons could be shortened and fewer crops would be harvested. Another recent blog noted that Ug99, a wheat disease, threatens up to 90% of the world’s wheat supplies as it spreads globally. Matthew 24:6 and Revelation 6:5-6 warn that famines and food rationing are certain to occur in the latter day period that we are entering. I hope that you have read (and are acting on) the information contained in my article “Should Christians Prepare for Future Hard Times?” At some point when major prophesied events overtake the world’s nations, there will be no more time to prepare. I’m not trying to be an alarmist. I’m just stating what the Bible says is certain to occur. I hope that you are taking the Bible’s warnings seriously.
