The nation of Libya is very prominent in the news as citizen militias and some rebel soldiers are trying to overthrow Libya’s long-time ruler, Muammar Qaddafi. After initial successes, it appears that Qaddafy’s military power is now successfully resisting the rebel forces. I do not know how current events in Libya will unfold, but Ezekiel 38 makes it very clear that Libya (whoever rules it in the future) is fated to be a part of the Gog-Magog alliance.

Ezekiel 38:5 prominently mentions “Libya” as an ally of Russia, China, Iran and other nations in the Gog-Magog alliance that will attack the nations of the latter-day ten tribes of “Israel” at the end of this age. Indeed, the term “Libya” comes from the Hebrew word, “Phut” which identifies one of the sons of Ham (Genesis 10:6) whose descendants historically settled in North Africa. Therefore, the term “Phut” could identify more nations in North Africa than just Libya. Given the overthrow of the government in Tunisia and unrest in other North African Islamic nations, more than one anti-American, anti-western government may emerge in North Africa. As you watch what happens in Libya, you can already know that Libya will eventually end up in the arms of Russia, China and Iran, no matter who rules the nation.

Libya may already be more in the Gog-Magog alliance than people realize. As the first link below mentions, China already had 30,000 Chinese citizens in Libya at the time the revolt against Qaddafy broke out. I think most Americans would be amazed to know so many Chinese nationals were already present in Libya. The second link points out that China is sending one of its modern missile-carrying warships to the Libyan coast to protect or evacuate its citizens. This may be the first time that a Communist Chinese warship will be present in the Mediterranean Sea, long a NATO-controlled region.

It is odd that Barrack Obama, who came into office as the most pro-Islamic president in American history, is managing to deeply offend one Islamic nation after another. He failed to support Hosni Mubarak of Egypt even though Mubarak had been an ally of the USA for 30 years and had hosted Obama for a prominent visit and speech soon after Obama was elected. A previous post at this blog site mentioned that Saudi Arabia’s King, a personal friend of Mubarak, was furious at Obama for betraying Mubarak. Now Qaddafy, who had at least made peace with the West in recent years, has surely been deeply offended at Obama’s initial support of the Libyan rebels against his rule. If Qaddafy remains Libya’s ruler (or his son takes over), you can be sure he will have plenty of hatred and resentment toward Obama and the USA for their open willingness to dump him in favor of the rebels. That will drive him into the arms of Russia, China and Iran if Qaddafy remains in power. Obama’s confusing and indecisive foreign policy decisions may soon leave him with no friends left in the Islamic world.
