As many readers likely know, the Israelis have been hastening to develop and deploy a sophisticated “Iron Dome” missile defense system which would protect the nation from many types of missiles attacks. The system has recently gone “on-line” first at Haifa and Beersheba and then at Ashkelon. It did not have long to wait until its first operational usage. A Hamas-fired grad rocket was apparently shot at the city of Ashkelon in an apparent enemy attempt to determine if the system worked or not (see links below [1, 2, 3]). It worked! The Hamas missile was seen to be intercepted and it exploded in midair. The success of this anti-missile system ought to make all Israelis feel much more secure. The Iron Dome system will next be installed at a new location in Central Israel as well (see first link), and the second link adds more ground-based locations will be added later.

At a time when great turmoil is threatening to rip apart the Sunni Islamic nations around Israel, Israel’s security interests are deeply threatened by the turmoil in the neighboring Islamic states of Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Jordan. Lebanon is already effectively under the control of the pro-Iranian Hezbollah organization. If other neighboring Islamic states succumb to radical uprisings, Israel could be surrounded by a sea of radical Islamic governments. Let us hope and pray this does not happen, but if it does, the new Iron Dome missile-defense system will give Israel a tremendous advantage over its potential attackers. As the second link notes, this was the first successful downing of a short-range missile in global military history! No doubt, the Iron Dome system is also configured to knock down any long-range missiles fired at Israel from Iran. If Iran ever fires missiles with chemical or nuclear warheads at Israel, the dangerous toxins and radioactive materials in those warheads could fall on Moslems in Jordan and Saudi Arabia if they are shot down by the Israeli Iron Dome defense system. That is another major reason why Jordan and Saudi Arabia need to be sure their governments do not fall into radical hands.

The Iron Dome system greatly strengthens Israeli security and this is in total harmony with God’s prophetic promise in Zechariah 12:3 and 6 that God will defend the Jewish state (called “Judah” in the Bible) “though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it,” and that God will so strengthen the military power and success of the Israelis in the latter days that they will “devour all the people round about” the Israeli nation.
