Israel has just launched what may be its largest air attack ever vs. Hezbollah. The first link reports that Israel used 100 warplanes to hit approximately 1000 [Hezbollah] targets in Southern Lebanon. That has to be the largest air strike vs. an enemy that Israel has launched in a long time. It reportedly was launched just “minutes” before Hezbollah was about to fire over a thousand of its missiles and rockets vs. Israeli targets, and that at least some of the missiles were aimed at Israel’s central heartland. To reach central Israel, Hezbollah would have had to use some of its longer-range missiles. If Hezbollah had launched such a massive attack and considerable damage had been done to Israel’s infrastructure and cities, the Mideast would likely be in a very large Mideast war already. There are reports that Hezbollah then fired over 300 rockets into Israel and an unknown number of armed drones. It seems evident that Israel’s excellent air defenses shot down almost everything Hezbollah launched at Israel. It is also reported that the rockets fired by Hezbollah were rather obsolescent. They may have been all that was available to fire anything at Israel after Israel destroyed all the the launching tubes for more capable Hezbollah missiles.

It is a testimony to the accuracy of Israel’s intelligence vis-à-vis Hezbollah that they could determine Hezbollah was within minutes of launching a major attack vs. Israel.  Israel surely is monitoring everything in Hezbollah’s territory in real-time on a 24/7 basis. Israel likely saw that Hezbollah’s launching facilities were preparing to fire a massive number of missiles, and the Israeli air force attacked and destroyed those launching facilities as well as the missiles Hezbollah was readying for launch. Israel has dealt Hezbollah a major bow. Hezbollah reportedly has many tens of thousands of missiles and rockets of all kinds, but they do not have that many launchers. In this attack, Israel has destroyed perhaps a thousand of Hezbollah’s launch tubes so they cannot be used again in the future. The first link also cites the Israeli government as saying that more “surprising blows” are going to be launched by Israel. Some of those blows may be aimed at Iran as Iran has provided the missiles and launchers to Hezbollah.Israel needs to degrade the military abilities of both Iran and Hezbollah so Israel can return to some kind of domestic and economic normalcy.

The second link reports that Hezbollah has launched over 6,700 missiles, rockets and armed drones at Israeli targets since Hamas launched a war vs. Israel in its infamous 10-7-23 attack on peaceful Israeli towns. That is a huge number of projectiles fired by Hezbollah at Israel! The link also confirms that the Israeli warplanes eliminated “thousands” of Hezbollah’s launching barrels for its missiles and rockets. This would be a huge defeat for Hezbollah as Israel has just destroyed a very significant number of Hezbollah’s rocket launchers. This means that even if Hezbollah has over 100,000 missiles and rockets left in its inventory, they have lost a large percentage of the launchers it needs to fire those missiles and rockets at Israel. Indeed, Israel may have been waiting for just such a moment. In order to launch a major missile and rocket attack vs. Israel, Hezbollah had to activate and expose their launching tubes in order to use them. That is precisely when the Israeli air force hit perhaps over a thousand of those launching tubes.

In the third link you can see a desire by those who wrote the story to greatly minimize the scope of these recent Israeli-Hezbollah hostilities. It cites only “dozens” of targets hit by Israel, not a thousand targets like the first two links, but I am including the link to offer you a contrasting viewpoint to the first two links which were from Israeli media sources. The third link does cite Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu as stating that “this is not the end of the story.” This agrees with the report in the first link that Israel will launch more “surprise blows” against its enemies. The fourth link offers visuals of the nighttime attack and repeats the claim that “thousands” of Hezbollah rocket launchers were destroyed in the Israeli attack. The fourth link also repeats Israeli PM Netanyahu’s statement that more “blows” will be launched by the Israelis.

This confrontation between Israel on one hand and Iran and its proxies on the other hand continues to expand. The international community is trying hard to prevent this from developing into a major Mideast war, but it remains to be seen if their efforts will be successful. At some point, events can take on a momentum toward warfare which cannot be stopped (World War I was just such an example). It is not yet clear if that will happen in the Mideast or not. Perhaps the answer will become clearer when we see what Israeli PM Netanyahu has in mind when he unveils  the “surprising blows” which he stated that Israel is yet to launch at its enemies.
