Revelation 18 prophesies that an entity called “Babylon the Great” will gain global power in the latter days of our age just prior to the return of Jesus Christ. Verse 3 states this entity will dominate “all nations,” and that it will be an alliance of the “kings of the earth” and the “merchants of the earth” (verses 3, 9-11). The prophecy indicates that it will be a political/economic system which dominates the nations to the benefit of the insiders in Babylon the Great’s system who are “waxed rich” in the process.
It is easy to see how this prophecy has been fulfilled in the modern world in remarkable detail. The nations of the world are now dominated by a world system called “globalism” which has both political and economic aspects. The term “kings of the earth” would designate national political leaders (elected or appointed), and the term “merchants of the earth” has been strikingly fulfilled today by modern “multi-national” or “global” corporations who have manufacturing and sales operations all over the globe. Revelation 18:11-14 prophesy that the global merchants of Babylon the Great will sell all manner of goods and services to the world’s nations. This prophecy about a global political/economic system coming to pass in the latter days has been dramatically fulfilled before our eyes. Treaties and agreements such as NAFTA, CAFTA, the EU, the WTO, etc. have been implemented by political authorities (“the kings of the earth”) to facilitate the global marketing activities of the global corporations (the “merchants of the earth”). One hand “washed the other” you might say.
Babylon the Great is not even coy about its existence or its agendas. One publication, in particular, gives good insights into the plans, goals and agendas of Babylon the Great’s forces of globalism. That publication is Foreign Affairs, published by the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR). An article in the January/February issue of Foreign Affairs particularly caught my eye. Before discussing it, allow me to say a few words about the CFR. Like many readers of this blog, I’ve heard from others that the CFR, along with the Trilateral Commission, the Illuminati, the Bilderbergers, the Royal House of England, Swiss Bankers, Jewish Bankers, the Masons or some (or all) of the above are part of a “global conspiracy” to impose the rulership of a global elite on all nations of the world. Actually, that is pretty consistent with what Revelation 18 prophesies. I will leave to others to determine which of these groups, if any, are involved in this end-time globalist plan to dominate the nations. My interest is in analyzing the fulfillment of biblical prophecy, and there is little doubt that secretive members of elite groups plot to dominate world events. Psalm 2:2-4 declares that all such political plotting will come to naught, and it is God’s will that be implemented in he end of our age, not the plans of Babylon the Great. Psalm 2:2-4 states:
“The kings of the earth [the same phrase as found in Revelation 18:3 and 9] set themselves and the rulers take
counsel against the Lord and his Anointed, saying, Let us break their bands asunder…He that sits in the
heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.”
No matter what plans the plotters of Babylon the Great seek to implement, God declares he actually takes amusement in the futility of their efforts to impose their will over his Divine will. Revelation 18 prophesies that the economic/banking system of ancient Babylon will , indeed, grow “great” over the nations at the end of this age just before Babylon’s entire system comes crashing down. [Those wishing more information about the historical development of Babylon’s economic/banking system and the likely role it played in various “captivities” of Israel in the book of Judges are urged to read my article “What Kind of Captivity?’ available at the articles link at this website.]
I’d like to point out that some of writers who contribute articles to Foreign Affairs are very deep thinkers, and some of its articles contain excellent analysis of, and insights into, world geopolitical trends. One article in the Summer, 1993 issue (“The Clash of Civilizations?” by Samuel Huntington) very accurately anticipated the tensions that would develop between the western nations and the rising militancy of the Islamic nations. It regularly has articles well worth reading. However, some of them all but proclaim the direction planned for the world by Babylon the Great’s planners. One such article is “Global Corporate Citizenship” in the January/February 2008 issue.
This article, by Klaus Schwab, calls for a closer partnership between the political leaders of the nations and the corporations of the world in administering world affairs and in addressing global problems and issues. The phrase “global corporate citizenship” appears so often in the article it sounds like a subliminal mantra. The article makes the case that the “role of the nation-state has diminished” and “the sphere of influence of business has widened.” Given this dynamic, the article calls for global corporations to become partners with political leaders in administering the world and addressing its problems. It asserts (quite accurately in my view) that “Corporations…have become integral to the survival of governments and the political stability of nations and regions.” It also states that “Global corporations have not only a license to operate in this arena but also a civic duty to…[sustain] the world’s well-being in cooperation with the governments…” This global partnership of political leaders and businesses is exactly what Revelation 18 foretold would occur at the very end of this age. The article calls for greater corporate involvement and power in dealing with such issues as inner-city housing projects, climate change, water shortages, infectious diseases, terrorism, access to food, failed states, and many more other social issues. This is a very broad list!
The article utilizes quite egalitarian language in its call for businesses to help nations find “new models of global governance.” However, given the gross income disparities already present (and growing) in the world between the elites and the common people, it sounds to me like the article is calling for corporations to divide the earth into the equivalent of “company towns” in which corporate monopolies will control “access to food,” who has access to drinking water during “water shortages,” etc. It sounds to me like Babylon the Great wants to work toward a “global governance” which would echo the feudalism of the Medieval period, in which small elites controlled and dominated vast numbers of serfs who enriched their masters while receiving mere subsistence wages in return. The obscene overpayments to many corporate CEOs which have been the subject of many media articles buttress such concerns.
I urge you to read this article in Foreign Affairs in light of Revelation 18’s prophecy (the link is provided below). I think you will agree that is sounds exactly like the self-serving “global governance” which Revelation 18 prophesies will come to pass in the latter days. The dramatic fulfillment in modern geopolitics of Revelation 18’s prophecy (written down about 19 centuries ago) confirm (A) the accuracy of biblical prophecies and their applicability to our modern world and (B) that the Creator God who inspired the Bible is guiding world events to insure his biblical prophecies are fulfilled right on time and right on schedule.
